Come back

Hope Lacey is all better now. You owe my daughter a concert. It would have been her first concert and we understand that you were ill. Please come back to Cleveland so my daughter can see you. She absolutely LOVES Flyleaf.

Walk on eggshells

I doubt the band reads these; understandable given the immense amount of information they have to process on a daily basis, but I digress. . .<div>
</div><div>General warning to all aspiring vocalists out there of all ability levels: don't force it. If it hurts, something is breaking. Your cords are like any other body part; they get callouses and nodules, sometimes they swell or tear, and once they're blown, that's it. For keeps. Ask Steve Perry.</div><div>
</div><div>If the demand is there, it's very, very tempting to just keep singing all night, for days in a row, and there's a lot of financial and personal pressure to avoid canceling shows at all costs, but don't cave at the expense of your voice. And don't get frustrated with the rehab process or try to come back too early; there's nothing more frustrating than an uncooperative throat, but if you start back too soon you'll do permanent damage.</div><div>
</div><div>If you can afford it, visit an ENT and have a videolaryngosocopy done. They can watch your cords as you speak and sing and tell you if you are singing in a damaging way, and also check for nodules and polyps.</div><div>
</div><div>Also see a GI doctor if you tend to get hoarse after eating; this could be an acid reflux issue, which can slowly erode away and inflame your cords as well.</div><div>
</div><div>patience and peace,</div><div>
